It is not easy even to begin to contemplate describing the year 2012 within the context of a Network that is as formidable as INDEPTH –challenging, difficult, successful, rewarding, hopeful, interesting? Indeed I think 2012 has been all of these both for the Network and for me as Executive Director.

Right from the start of the year, we stepped out as a network fully prepared to complete a cycle of activities. We began with the themes: Quality, Focus and Innovation. Our aims were high and expectations great. Month after month, we rolled out new initiatives in the three critical areas of our work – scientific research; capacity strengthening and data management and sharing. Proposed programmes and projects in these areas took on a life of their own and became realities with potentially exciting outcomes
